Do's and don'ts

Do's

DO sit up straight DO make eye contact DO sell yourself DO follow up DO relax

Do dress the part.

Do prepare questions.

Do tell the truth.

Do be memorable.

Dress appropriately for the industry; err on the side of being conservative to show you take the interview seriously. Your personal grooming and cleanliness should be impeccable. Know the exact time and location of your interview; know how long it takes to get there, park, find a rest room to freshen up, etc. Arrive early; 10 minutes prior to the interview start time [or earlier if the event or employer instructs you to do so]. Treat other people you encounter with courtesy and respect. Their opinions of you might be solicited during hiring decisions. Offer a firm handshake, make eye contact, and have a friendly expression when you are greeted by your interviewer. Listen to be sure you understand your interviewer's name and the correct pronunciation. Even when your interviewer gives you a first and last name, address your interviewer by title (Ms., Mr., Dr.) and last name, until invited to do otherwise. Maintain good eye contact during the interview. Sit still in your seat; avoid fidgeting and slouching. Respond to questions and back up your statements about yourself with specific examples whenever possible. Ask for clarification if you don't understand a question. Be thorough in your responses, while being concise in your wording. Be honest and be yourself — your best professional self. Dishonesty gets discovered and is grounds for withdrawing job offers and for firing. You want a good match between yourself and your employer. If you get hired by acting like someone other than yourself, you and your employer will both be unhappy. Treat the interview seriously and as though you are truly interested in the employer and the opportunity presented. Exhibit a positive attitude. The interviewer is evaluating you as a potential co-worker. Behave like someone you would want to work with.

Dont's

DON’T cross your arms DON’T play with your hair DON’T be too intense DON’T be unprepared DON’T underdress DON’T ask about money DON'T tell lies

Don't forget to research the company.

Don't be late.

Don't be negative about previous employers.

Don't be modest.

Be arrogant Avoid eye contact Be late Be too early Lie Dress inappropriately Fidget Show a lack of accountability Check the time Answer the phone Act desperate Look angry Cross your arms Be defensive Come unprepared Look bored Be rude

Possible questions I could get asked

How has your internship helped you gain knowlege and experience? What are you planning to do to use your media skills?

What videos did you make on your YouTube channel?

What was the process of making your best project?

What have you created with your media skills?

What do you want to do with your media skills in the future?

What software are you most comfortable using and why?

My index cards

Feedback audio

Index cards after feedback

I couldn't finish the last one in the time limit we had.

I just realized that the notes were basically the same. but when I was writing it down I was thinking about the feedback that I had just received and i used it to tweak my responses in the final interview.

When creating the index cards the first time I answered the question in my head and wrote down key information like easily forgettable words or words that would help me build on my answer. The second time around I did the same thing although I kept my feedback in my mind. I think since most of my feedback wasn't related to my answer, the information on the index card didn't change that much.

Final Interview

Feedback on the final interview

Pros

constant eye contact

Well developed answers Good confidence and hand movements, the hand movements help to keep the listener engage Good eye contact Good knowledge of software Good posture you maintain eye contact throughout the interview and have really expressive body language and you articulated your answers really well.

I like how you started off on a personal note and showed how you enjoy doing what you do. Great that you mentioned the tools in the software and how you mad it clear that the tools were the main reason for your feeling of comfort when using the software. Fluent, confident, Knowledgeable, and real. Great eye contact and personality came through. Overall great interview!

Cons

Leg was shaking a bit

Keep calm and try not to fidget For the internship, try to make it relate to media (E.G I gained knowledge on how to interact with customers which could be used in media)

you spoke really quickly when she asked you questions that you haven’t prepared which makes it hard to understand what you say.

A little bit of stuttering, try to rehearse and practice a bit more beforehand.

Slow down your speech as you tend to speak quickly.

My response to the feedback

I do agree with the majority of the feedback like how I talk quickly, especially when i got asked a question that I hadn't practiced. The only one I don't agree with is the leg shaking and ... it was cold in the class room.

In the future I would develop my answer in more or less the same way. I would research popular questions and try to answer them and slowly shrink them down till I have a precise and short answer.
