Advert structures
1) Realistic narrative
Coca-Cola smile ad
In this advertisement there is a man that looks to be watching something on his tablet while on a train. They then show everyone else on the train. The man then starts laughing at what he is watching. Slowly, everyone that is in the train notices the man and starts laughing with him. Eventually everyone is laughing, and a few people start handing out cards with a smile on them and a can of Coca-Cola. I could do something like this where a person goes for a walk and smiles at someone else, and then that person smiles at someone else and then so on. As the advert would end there would a voice over telling the viewers about the smile foundation and the benefits of smiling.
2) Antirealist narrative
puppy monkey baby
The combination of a puppy, a monkey and a baby is used by mountain dew because their new drink was a dew, juice and caffeine all in one. People would smile just because of how odd this combination was. It was weird and that’s why it caught people’s attention. An idea I can use from this is that even animals can make people smile. Or I as this is meant to be antirealist I could make two animals like a cat and a bird talk to each other about the importance of smiling. I’m not sure how I would do this without CGI.
3) Documentary
Uber Eats, Miss Chow’s
the advertisement is like an interview with the owner of Miss Chow’s. In the advert she talks about the history of the restaurant, the location of the restaurant and how they are on Uber Eats. Many people would smile when watching this as people like food, even just looking at it. For a documentary I would probably get about 10-20 people to sit down and answer “what makes you smile?”. I would then slowly flood the screen with the responses while conveying the message of the Smile campaign.
4) Series
Apple at work series
This series shows how employees can use their various apple products while at work. It shows the story of these underdog employees that have to make an entire business pitch in the first video. The second video shows how the same team have create designs for their product but their budget it lesser and their meeting is earlier. People would smile while watching this because of how relatable it is. I have to remember to make my advertisement relatable to my audience so that they can understand and relate with the advertisement. I could make a series about two people that are trying to convince the coworkers/classmates to smile more.
